Is It the End of An Era?
Star Wars Episode IX
The Rise of Skywalker
If you haven’t watched Star Wars or just need a reminder of the events that take place in all the past films, take the time to watch this video from Youtube to get back on track!
Hello Everyone and Welcome back to C&M! My name is Kay and I hope that your days is beautiful as you are! Warmer weather is finally here to stay, and I cannot tell you how awesome it feels to me. Chris and I finally get to go on walks instead of staying at home all the time (Ha-ha!). We are really living it up! How are you all doing with the warmer weather? And for the people that live in places that are warmer year-round, I hope that you aren’t sweating to your bones!
The new Star Wars movie teaser trailer just came out yesterday, and I don’t know how to feel about it. Its full title being “The Rise of Skywalker” which has left me in questions. I always try to keep an open mind when movies are announced, but I honestly don’t know what to expect from this last film of the trilogy. Chris and I will have to re-watch the last two movies just to remind ourselves of what the storyline was leading up to. I honestly can’t tell you what the story is anymore but that’s why I got to re-watch it (Ha-ha!). I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, but I don’t think the last two movies developed well. All the actors were amazing with the parts that they played. I don’t want any hate for them on this post because I really do believe they were amazing. I’m meaning the plot and the tempo of the films are just super off. I don’t have to preach to you! Most likely, the people that are the main audience of Star Wars in the theater already have a strong opinion, so I won’t mess with that!
Now, the films were all so very handsome and fairly attractive to watch, but there were points in the movies that made little to no sense. Not getting too into it, but there were many parts in both films that made little to no sense on why things were happening or progressing. Physics doesn’t seem to matter in the many scenes that we all witnessed, but I digress.
Chris has been a fan of Star Wars ever since he was a child, so he takes the lore of these movies very seriously. We have the Darth Vader comic books in our collection, novels that Disney has produced. He has an old magazine from when Episode I came out. Obviously, these are not the only things that he has accumulated through the years, but they are pretty cool things.
He is also the one to watch Youtube videos of people that do and do not like the movie in question. More times than I can count, I’d see him watching or listening to people on Youtube highlight flaws of the film that, say for example, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” would have. A lot of people have very strong feelings about this film, so if you are at all interested in watching them as well, then click on one of the links below to take a gander! They are very long videos (from my standards). He watches these videos to see if what he noticed was noticed by others as well. Also, to see if others find something cool or interesting that he didn’t notice before. I can guarantee that he will be researching opinions of his fellow fan-base either tonight or tomorrow about this teaser.
I, on the other hand, just started paying attention to this series, I think I’m more open to silly ideas for this franchise, but I know the difference from silly to impractical or bad ideas. You won’t see me watching those types of videos on Youtube on my own. I’ve watched them with Chris, but they aren’t something that I actively look for. I do understand why he gets so invested in the stories. When I get passionate about a character or of storyline, there isn’t anything that can keep my expectations to be of the highest levels.
Now that I have my own thoughts on the most recent trilogy, it’s on to the end of this era. The Rise of Skywalker. What could that mean? Does it mean that Rey is actually a Skywalker? That would explain why she is so powerful (too powerful?) and why she has a natural ability to weld the Force to her advantage. Again, I’m 1000% sure that the opinion on Rey (not her actor) is highly skewed, depending on who you talk to. Is Kylo Ren going to be the Skywalker that amounts to do amazing things? If the theories are true, Rey and Kylo are related. Why is there sexual tension between them then? True that they did that in Episode V between Leia and Luke, but I don’t think they need to return to that pattern. It was surprising that that was even the case for that movie, but that’s for a different day.
So…I don’t really know what I think about this trailer. I wasn’t too big of a fan of Episode VII or Episode VIII. I honestly had no idea what was going on or where the main issue was. There was a lot of fighting, but it didn’t seem like there was an explanation for any of it. Obviously, there was the Resistance and the First Order BUT the First Order was HUGE. The Resistance was a really small fraction of a faction. The First Order defiantly didn’t need to put in so much effort into stopping the rebels, but to each their own. I’m getting off track again!
So, my feelings on this new movie coming out is a mix between hope and caution. Hope because, sometimes you have to wait for the rest of the series to come out to make it seem worth it. With the right finesse, maybe the three movies could be tied up to be amazing. I don’t know what to expect for this last film but I’m hoping that they do right by the fans. Caution would be that they completely ruin the views of this franchise. So, it’s pretty extreme (Ha-ha)!
As you watch this trailer, you can see that there are popular characters that were in past films, such as: Leia, Chewie, Lando, Luke’s voice narrating, C3PO (I didn’t see R2D2), and Palpatine’s laughter. The collection of the characters brings feelings of nostalgia back to the audience, and I think that is the smartest move of all. Obviously, they have done this before, but this is to be the resolution to this epic saga, which is no secret.
I really do hope that this movie is a success, because it would be really nice to leave the theater happy and excited about what we just witnessed. There’s nothing more upsetting than to leave a theater from a film that you were looking forward to. I hope for the Fan’s sake, that it knocks their socks off! Come! On! Disney!
Enjoy the teaser! Let me know what you all think!
Thank you everyone for reading! I’m starting to get the hang of my blog abilities. Obviously, I am still working on it BUT we are all here to learn with each other!
